I love my cats

I love my cats.
I love my cats.

That's what I keep telling myself as they continue peeing on the freakin' carpet! They have a fresh, clean litterbox that they refuse to use.

Anyone else have this problem?

(Note: solutions involving "kill 'em" or some variation of said phrase are not acceptable solutions, so don't even try.)

Perhaps they don't like the brand of litter you use. It's been my experience that cats are very particular about the sand they urinate in. I have to use the un-scented Johnny Cat, or my cat refuses to use it.

I've got nothing, except empathy, because I have to say "I love my dog. I love my dog" not when he pees (he's pretty good about that) but when he destroys a $30 retractable leash with one snip of his mighty incisors. Stupid dog.

Yeah, maybe it is the litter? I've read on the internet that if they go unusual places all of a sudden it's either the litter or they're having a 'problem' and need to see a vet.

Hm. The litter does smell REALLY strong. I can't say I enjoy the smell of it. Maybe I'll try and unscented brand next. I don't think it's a urinary tract issue, but maybe that would be good to get checked as well. Thanks guys.

Katie--I feel your pain. I've not only got the cats peeing on everything, I've got the dog that destroys things for fun. Never to eat them, just to rip them apart.

I feel your pain, our kitty was doing the same thing. I ended up ripping out the carpet back in January. That stopped her. Have you tried Feliway?

Coffeedog--We're currently just putting down newspaper. We don't own our house, so we can't pull up the carpet. I've changed litter brands and am religiously cleaning the box. This is working, for now. They both just hate the lid on the box, which is absolutely necessary or the dogs get into it...a vicious cycle...
